Mermaids Are Not Seapunk

about

Originally meant for an art/music project with Norient, "Mermaids Are Not Seapunk" is based on a the vaporwave article of the same name on the site which featured Blank Banshee's Eco Zone track. To put it more succinctly, the song is based on the two main samples in the Blank Banshee track; Aquatic Ambience from the SNES classic Donkey Kong Country and the infuriating Water Temple level music from Ocarina of time.

LAMEBOT not only sampled some audio parts, but also the MIDI information from the game soundtracks, programmed into new instruments and sound design in order to transpose this song into a slightly different realm. The vaporwave aesthetics are present, but stretched over a bouncy club music structure which is both upbeat and slowed down at the same time, creating an air of uneasiness.

The vocal sample is melancholic and juxtaposed with a busy kick pattern and booming sub-bass. Hit play and dive into this underwater bop. And remember, Mermaids Are Not Seapunk.

lyrics

Are done? Are you sick of me?
Don't cry you don't have to leave
We can make new memories, baby don't let go
I messed up now I'm on my knees
We can make new memories baby don't let go
